The largest city in the world is the famous city of shanghai with a population of over twenty million people in its metropolitan area. Shanghai is the capital of china and the commerce industry in this city flourished in the early 1900’s which made it a multinational centre of financial business by the year 1930.
The city of shanghai is in rapid development and as with many areas in china, it is undergoing a building boom. Modern architecture has been employed in building high rise buildings and hotels such as luxury boutique hotels. Recently, there has been more focus on building “green areas” (public parks) and associated buildings and hotels such as the more homely luxury boutique hotels and resorts, boutique hotels and resorts and exclusive spa resorts which will improve the life quality of the people of shanghai and visiting tourists alike. Also, many projects aimed at improving the natural environment of shanghai termed “environmental protection projects” are ongoing. Projects such as the clean-up of the Suzhou creek which runs through the centre of the city have been completed.
Shanghai boasts many historic tourist centres and parks including the shanghai museum of art and history which has a large collection of Chinese historical artifacts and Zhongshan Gongyuan which is famous for its monument of Chopin. Parks in shanghai offer much relief from the running’s of the urban jungle and provide a safe and quiet place for kids to play. One of the newest parks is the Xujiahui Gongyuan built in 1999 and located in the Xujiahui district.
