After more than 1000 years of history, the Ancient Relais-Monastery of San Biagio, expresses the best fascination still today, wrapped in a mystical atmosphere. Ideally it allows you to travel back in time between the real happened and the legend alternations of the history, but one thing is sure this place expresses something of unique and special that anyone can testify.... for this we love it in a particular way...

The ancient Monastero di San Biagio date back to the year thousands when over the rests of an altar, some “Templar knights” reconstructed a Monastery with the intention of offering hospitality to noble and bourgeois warriors, that acting like wanting to live perpetually following customs of the rules of the “canonical ones” dedicated their life to this revolutionary order, for that time. In fact the social ranks of the age were divided between: Bellatores (those who fought), Oratores (those who prayed), and Laboratores (those who worked). While the monks of the time they had three ballots: poverty, obedience and castity, the Templar Knights joined the calm of the monks to the force of the warriors but beyond to those, they had a quarter skill, that is "to be in crews", the armed combat for safety reasons.

For several years those monks-warriors used to live here until when, always in the Middle Ages, exactly in the 1333 a.c. very close to the end of the “canonical templarism” the old Monastery (Saint Blasis) became house of hospitality for priests and pilgrims who "at the search of the Lost Native and Celestial Land " from the north Europe for penitential reasons and devotional aspects used to carry themself a 20-25 km of daily journey through the Flaminia way at that that time used to be a different way to the use of the known “Francigena” that connected to Rome and subsequently the Sacred Land.

With the passing of the time it became a Church of the territory from Foligno to Gubbio, until the beginning of 1900 when it was abandoned, already in state of advanced degradation by his last habitant, a curious old gentleman with a very long beard "Mr.Angelino" who lived and slept in a strange bed inside the rests of the antique church until around year 1960. Still today many people from the small village of Lanciano remembers him a like master herborist with his miracolous guarigions he donated for free to people in needing of help.

Today the Relais Monastery of San Biagio in the full respect of its history after a careful restoration of more than eight years, even with a marked intention to maintain the sobriety of the place, particular attention has been taken for all kind of details in the way to render it particularly refined. Starting from this ancient tradition the hospitality becomes an art, to let you enjoy a special vacation, for people looking for a comfortable and favorable position for reaching easy the most famous art cities of Umbria and Tuscany, for those who wants to find the best conditions in order to regenerate itself deeply, dipping itself in the peace offered by natural well-being centre located in the middle of a still not contaminated nature, where being able to rediscover colours, sounds, scents and good feelings that are not lost here with us.

The choice of not using television set and telephone is a real “plus” together with the value that we offer in maintaining this place unchanged like many ages ago, for transmitting you with extreme simplicity those particular feelings so important to enjoy a better life. Map Overview
