Hotel Tugu Malang
Malang is a town in East Java much favored for its cool temperature and beautiful mountainous nature. Malang was where Dutch planters and civil servants used to retire until the early 1900s. The old town is dotted with Dutch colonial era houses, small antique shops, old Chinese-Indonesian temple etc. Malang is surrounded by apple and tea plantations, botanical garden, and hundreds-years-old temple ruins. It is also an ideal base to explore the beautiful volcanic Mount Bromo, the hidden, exotic countryside beauty of East Java, as well as beautiful, unspoilt white-sand southern beaches.
Hotel Tugu Malang is a must-see destination by itself. Located right at the heart of the old city centre, it is an elegant mansion that tells the romantic stories of the island of Java. The proprietors’ collection of hundreds and hundreds of antiques tastefully adorn every corner of the hotel, walking guests through the heritages of the Dutch colonial era, the gradual fusion of the Indonesian and the Chinese cultures over many centuries as well as the humble beauty of traditional Indonesian masterpieces. Each of its 49 rooms and suites is designed with individual character; some have been dedicated as tributes to Indonesian art heroes of the past. Map Overview

| Temples Tour Malang is the home to many ancient “candi” (remains of kingdoms from many hundreds years ago), such as Candi Kidal, Candi Jago, and Candi Singosari, and others. Candi are sacred buildings that were usually built as memorial shrines for deceased members of the royal families. In memory of the deceased, a stone image of a god or goddess, with whom the deceased royal figure had been identified in life, was fashioned as an ideal portrait and placed within the candi. As a fertile region, Malang and its surrounding was once the centre of political power of the 8th century Kanjuruhan Kingdom, which explains why Malang region has many archaeological relics. Even after the collapse of the Kingdom of Singosari, Malang region remained to be an important region for the following dynasties of East Java.
Mount Bromo National Park Mount Bromo and Mount Penanjakan National Park, internationally famous for its most magical sunrise, is a haven for nature lovers, with its volcano, craters and sand plateaus. The people who live in this area (Tengger people) are supposed to have descended from the Majapahit Kingdom roundly six hundred years ago. Once a year (on different dates in accordance to their calendar), their most popular ceremony, Yadnya Kasada, is held in a temple which was built in the vast sand plateau near the edge of the crater on the top of Mount Bromo. Mount Bromo and Mount Penanjakan are roundly 2.5 hours away from the hotel. On the way back to the hotel, you can stop at the scenic tea plantation Wonosari (see description below).
Coban Pelangi The Coban Pelangi Waterfall is one of the few unexploited secrets of East Java; a 30-meter high hidden beauty surrounded by a pine forest. This waterfall is situated east of Malang, at the foot of Mount Semeru. This destination can be visited in conjunction with a visit to Mount Bromo.
Ranupane The Village of Ranupane, situated 2,100 meters above the sea level, is the starting point of the 2-day hiking track to the volcanic Mountain Semeru (3,767 meter high – the tallest in Java). Ranupane is famous for its beautiful lake, Lake Ranupane which is surrounded by wildlife and sand plateau. The peaceful Village of Ranupane has a population of about 60 people; most of them are traditional vegetables farmers. Nearby Ranupane is another lake called Ranu Regulo.

| Apsara Residence Once upon a time in Java, there was a romantic legend of a young handsome prince who prayed for a most beautiful princess to be his wife to love. The Gods finally answered his prayers, and send the most beautiful Apsara dancer from Nirvana (Apsaras were the dancers of Gods, kings and knights). Apsara flew down and danced at the prince’s royal chamber over three consequent full moons, and by the end of the third full moon she realized she had fallen in love with the prince as well. This 400m² residence is inspired by the prince’s chamber where Apsara had flown into and danced under the moonlight. It consists of one private spa, ‘Hall of Dancers’; an antique canopy with a large outdoor tub; a separate romantic dining area; as well as a spacious sleeping suite with a beautiful antique 3.5-meter wide bed.
Raden Saleh Suite This suite is inspired by the life of Raden Saleh, a great artist of the royal Javanese family and forefather of modern Indonesian paintings who lived in Java during the mid-19th century. The suite, which consists of a beautiful bedroom and a separate living area, has a romantic air of Java in the 19th-century, with authentic Javanese furniture from the 1850s.
Babah Suite The Ba bah Suite portrays the life of the Peranakan or \"Nonya Baba\" society in Malang around the 1850s. The original Nonya Baba culture began when young men left mainland China in search for more prosperous lives in Southeast Asia, a tradition that began more than four centuries ago. These young married local girls in the islands where these men then settled. Through the years, a new culture was gradually formed by these mixed marriages: a product of a fusion between the local cultures, Chinese culture, as well as the influence from the West, with the Chinese culture commonly being the most dominant influence. In the 1950s, the peranakan lifestyle gradually became harder to find, as more and more old houses were demolished and the contents of these houses were dispersed.
Zamrud Suite The Zamrud Suite features the traditional beauty of East Java. The five Zamrud Suites are differentiated by interior layouts, colors, decors, elegant antique beds, and curios. Albeit designed with a strong traditional East Java atmosphere, the Zamrud Suites and the Babah Suite are well equipped with modern luxuries.
Honeymoonlight Suite Located on the third floor and facing the “Jan Pieterszoon Coen Plein“, this spacious, romantic suite is located on the 3rd floor, facing the main ‘alun-alun’ (the main square in front of the main city hall, with a large pond of lotus blooms and a historical monument “Tugu” in the middle of the square). This suite has a romantic outdoor area, a perfect place for a candlelit dinner under stars, facing the alun-alun Tugu.
Devata Suite This suite, located near the Apsara Residence, has a style that is best described as a more contemporary Southeast Asian Bohemian. The headboard of the low bed is a beautiful, colorful wall painting of the Apsara dancers.
Executive Suite Room and Superior Deluxe Room The Executive Suites and Superior Deluxe rooms are located on all floors. Some of the Executive Suites and Superior Deluxe rooms are overlooking the huge waterlily pond and the Tugu city monument, while some others open to lush tropical greens through their private balconies. The Executive Suites feature additional sitting area with sofa and armchairs, with oversized handcrafted tubs in the bathrooms. Several Superior Deluxe rooms have separate writing area overlooking the garden; some Executive Suites are sub-categorized as Malang Tempoe Doeloe Suites for their nostalgic “Malang in the Old Dutch colonial times” atmosphere.

APSARA SPA The atmosphere of the Apsara Spa is inspired by the romantic tales of the relationship between Indonesia and Cambodia hundreds of years back, whereas the treatments are inspired by the serene, heavenly beauty of the Apsara goddess dancers (see explanation of Apsaras under the Apsara Suite above). The Apsara Spa is an oasis of peace, a heaven on earth secluded from the outer world.
One of the various signature treatments at the Apsara Spa is an indulging massage that combines the dance performed by the Apsara dancers (Yin), and a stronger deep tissue massage (Yang) from ancient Java. We strongly recommend the \'Day Dream in Angkor\': a thorough 4-hour, romantic treatment for two that uses various natural exotic herbs, traditional spices and local exotic flowers, including a complete aromatherapy which historically could only be performed exclusively for the main royal family. This romantic treatment can also include a private gourmet dinner or lunch at the Tirta Gangga Dining Room.

Bangsal Merah Boepati (The Red Chamber of the Javanese Regent) Bangsal Merah Boepati, a tribute to the East Java history from mid-18th century to the end of 20th century, is based on the lives of the regents of East Java, successors of Kyai Brondong through several generations. Research reveals that the two regents who once ruled Surabaya together got into a war against each other. As a result one of the regents’ sisters ran away and seeked for shelter in a ship that belonged to a man of the Ching Dinasty, who arrived in Java in 1754. They then married and began the Tjoa Dinasty in Indonesia. As years passed, later successors of regents of Surabaya also formed friendships with several Straits Chinese figures of Java, such as The Toan Eng, Tjoa Sien Hie, etc. Some of the artworks related to these late regents, discovered by Tugu Hotels, demonstrate a fusion between traditional Javanese culture and Straits Chinese influence.
The Bangsal Merah Boepati can be used to house smaller conferences, lunches, dinners, and other events up to 20 guests.
